About Rodney
Rodney was saved as a teenager at Newtonsville Baptist Church in Newtonsville, Ohio. It wasn’t long until he felt a desire to do more for God. After graduating high school, he went to Tennessee Temple University where he graduated in 1977 with a B.A. degree. In his heart, he felt God dealing with him about surrendering to preach, but it was a few years later when he stopped making excuses and surrendered to the gospel ministry. Rodney felt God leading them to the mission field of Peru where he took his family in 1991.
Before coming to Roanoke, Virginia, he spent a total of 15 years in the church planting ministry. God used him to start New Testament Baptist Church in Cajamarca, Peru, and also New Testament Baptist Church in Lima, Peru. He was also instrumental in helping to organize other works in Peru. Not only did he do church planting, he was often called upon to teach and preach in other areas of Peru.
In 2013, Rodney began to feel God calling him to Brentwood Baptist Church in Roanoke, Virginia. He never imagined God would ever lead him to another place of service. After months of prayer and seeking God’s will, Rodney and Rebekah announced to the Brethren in Peru where God was leading them to go and on October 6, 2013, he became pastor of the Brentwood Baptist Church.
Rodney has a B.A. in Education and Bible from Tennessee Temple University, a Spanish degree from Wilmington College, Wilmington, Ohio, and a Master’s Degree in Biblical Counseling from Patriot Bible University in Del Norte, Colorado. His desire is to use all these things for God in the ministry, to see Brentwood Baptist built up and lives changed by the grace and mercy of God.
About Rebekah
Rebekah is the mother of four children and five grandchildren. Sh has been a very faithful helpmeet to her husband, never wavering as they left the states to go to Peru and many years later when they returned to minister in the United States. She works in the music, teaches the Sunday school, heads up the ladies’ group, and does counseling with women.
Rebekah was born in the Philippines to Marciano and Iluminada Flores. Her parents were a God-honoring, God fearing couple that was involved in the Lord’s work in the Philippines. She is the oldest of 4 children.
She grew up around American missionaries and Filipino pastors. She can never remember a time that she did not attend church. She received Christ as a child. She had an unsatiable desire to learn to play the piano. She actually walked quite a distance, just to get to a piano and to be able to practice. At age 9, she was already serving as a pianist in a church.
She married her husband, Rodney Spears on Feb. 25, 1980. Shortly after their wedding, they came to the states where she made her home until the Lord called her husband to Peru in 1991. Then, in 2013, the Lord lead them to Brentwood Baptist Church.
The desire of her life is to serve the Lord Jesus Christ and to see each of her children and grandchildren saved and serving the Lord in whatever capacity He may see fit.
